Principal’s Message

It is my pleasure to serve the Lipilekha community as Pathshala Principal for the second time in six years and join the current executive committee.

For me, the name Pathshala evokes a sense of coming-together, of camaraderie, friendship, and fun. It is a melting pot of all things culture, art, adda, learning and laughter. Why? Because it is here that my family and I got introduced to the community some 11 years ago moving from Atlanta. It is in Pathshala, that my boys met other kids which developed into great bonding and friendship that continues through to college for my older one.

And yes, Pathshala is about learning all things Bangla. In fact, that is one of the main objectives of the school. And as we all know from our own experiences, immersive learning is the best way to master new language and skill (we learned to speak first before reading a book). And communication is the key! Isn’t that we as parents wish for? That our kids speak with us in Bangla!

Therefore, the syllabus for all the class levels is structured in a manner to provide the kids an overall understanding of Bangla language and literature. Our teachers have carefully planned the courses incorporating poems, stories, biographies, festivals to name a few, making it engaging and easy to grasp.  We believe this will instill curiosity and interest to communicate in the language and eventually learn to read and write.

We have added an enrichment segment that complements the regular class learnings. Enrichment will include different art and culture related group activities which will provide a wholesome dose of Bangla culture in an entertaining form  One of the key enrichment activities is the Kids’ play which becomes the focal point of their learning. Historically, kids have been super enthusiastic and have delivered stellar performance on stage!  Those moments are rewarding for kids and the parents alike!

We do have a brand-new location of Pathshala in Yorktown Heights, NY and have introduced an “adult enrichment section” for all the adults of Lipilekha to congregate and spend some quality time together.

We would love to see our kid’s community grow and invite you to reach out to families with kids (ages 3 and up) and introduce them to Lipilekha Pathshala!

The biggest testament to this institution is the continued involvement of people in Pathshala long after their kids have graduated, me including!
