President
Dear Members and Friends,
I am honored and humbled to become the President of Lipilekha, a community so dear to my heart. I have been a member of Lipilekha for over two decades. What attracted me most to this vibrant community was their warm and welcoming nature, the way our children are cherished and nurtured, and the opportunities for cultural exchange and expression. Along the way, my family and I have grown with the rest of Lipilekha. My son attended Bangla School where besides learning Bangla, he learned to perform fearlessly on stage, and got the opportunity to write and perform a play on his own initiative. We built lasting friendships. Both my husband and I served in the Executive Committee and Board of Directors in various capacities. We learned so much along the way.
As President, I want to make our community thrive and grow! Not only do I want to attract new members, but also bring back members from the past. If you’re not yet or no longer a member, I invite you to join our community! I want to expand on the good work done by our previous committee – make our Community Center a circle of influence, the go to place for our members; and make our Bangla Pathshala a truly immersive experience for our students where they learn not only the language but also the cultural aspects and many more!
We have expanded our cultural events to include community center events such as Deepavali, Holiday Party, and Naboborsho where we can gather to celebrate with ample opportunities for our members for cultural expression. We would like to deliver quality cultural programs at our main events and fundraisers that include external artists as well as Lipilekha’s own talent – both adults and children. We would like us to find creative ways to add to our cultural budget such as sponsorships from local businesses so that we can continue to afford external artists.
In addition to Feeding Westchester, My Sisters Place, Mukti, select disaster/emergency relief, and various local initiatives, we have expanded our philanthropic offerings to include Udayan and additional Mukti student sponsorships. My focus will be to ensure that we can deliver on these commitments and create a more sustainable philanthropic program.
Our Executive Committee brings a wealth of past experiences, wisdom, new perspectives, and energy. I am looking forward to working alongside them and members of our board to make Lipilekha thrive! I invite all you members to get involved and volunteer! We need your enthusiasm and support!
Here’s looking forward to the next two years and beyond!
Sincerely,
Titania Gupta
